YOUR HOLIDAY AT DUNAN

Dunan Estate is situated on the banks of the River Gaur on Rannoch Moor beyond the head of the beautiful Loch Rannoch. One of Scotland’s most secluded yet easily accessible estates, Dunan offers the discerning guest a wide range of activities including:

HILL WALKING: The “tops walk” is a magical walk around the highest points of Dunan (circa 10 miles including 2 munros) with views as far as Ben Nevis on a clear day.  For those wanting to take it a bit easier, you can get a 10 minute train to Corrour and walk back which is a similar distance but easier terrain. If Distance walking is your thing why don’t you get a train to Fort William and walk back around Ben Nevis along the iconic road to the isles all the way to Dunan which is circa 30 miles. There are lots of other walk, please refer to the tab hill walking for more details.

FISHING: Dunan has a long stretch of the beautiful River Gaur which is split between the upper and lower gaur which both contains pike, brown trout, the occasional salmon and sea trout. We caught two salmon in 2021. Our stocked Loch (Loch Sron Smeur) is a remote, peaceful place to cast a line with both wild brown trout of up to 1 pound and stocked larger brown trout between about 2 and 5 pounds. We have had a group of keen fishermen who have caught over 100 trout in a day here in 2021. Guests have access to two boats, one with an engine. For more details on Fishing please refer to the fishing tab.

LOCH BBQ’s: Loch Sron Smeur has picturesque mountainous surroundings with a long sandy beach at one end and a sheltered boat house at the other which gives the perfect location for a summer BBQ with all weather eventualities covered.

SWIMMING: Loch Sron Smeur is about 1km long which is the perfect challenge if you need to earn your lunch. The loch is not too deep so when the summer sun is out the temperature is quite relaxing. Lots of people every year swim the length. There are more swims in the River Gaur and other lochs. Please see the swimming tab for more details

CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING: With the steep rises and hills at Dunan, it is the perfect place to shoot challenging clays. We have a fully electric trap and our experienced game keeper Jonny Stevenson will provide you with a highly entertaining morning or day of clay shooting on the moor.

A MORE RELAXED DAY: If everything else you have read seems a bit too energetic or you just want a day off, then get the train to Mallaig at circa 11am which goes up the highlands along the scenic west coast taking about 2h30m and go for a delicious seafood lunch at the Fish Market restaurant and then catch a train back at circa 4pm.

COTTAGE: The beautiful cottage has 3 bedroom (1 double 2 twins), one bathroom, a kitchen and a living area with a wood burning stove. The annex next door to the cottage has two washing machines, two tumble dryers as well as a drying room that will dry your wet clothes from the hill overnight. For pictures and more information please refer to the accommodation tab.

LODGE: If you are a larger party then lodge is more suitable and has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a spacious living room with an open fire, a dining room seating up to 14 people, a kitchen with a large fridge and a utility room with another large fridge and chest freezer. For pictures and more information please refer to the accommodation tab.
