The agonising slow tension of a long stalk across a rainswept hillside, a held breath, squeeze, don’t pull.

The sudden heart stopping buzz of the reel as a large pike strikes and arrows across the river, shaking silver droplets from the line or the magical moment, frozen forever in memory, as an iridescent trout rises from the misty morning waters of the loch.

At Dunan we understand those who forsake the sofa and television for the hills, moors and lochs of Scotland. For an inexperienced guest provision will be made to give them stalking tuition and fishing tuition to make it more enjoyable for them.

Dunan's sporting opportunities are available to both resident and non resident guests alike.

STALKING

RED DEER STAGS
The season for stalking red deer stags, runs from July 1st to October 20th each year.

Dunan shoots about 50 stags a year, some as early as July, with most being shot from mid September to the end of the season during the rut. Dunan is a hind forest with many more stags on the ground during the rut. Most of the stags and almost all the early ones are shot on the higher ground of Corrie Eigheach. While Dunan does not have the steep hills of the west coast, one is likely to start walking at about 1,400ft and climb up to 3,000ft.

At the start of the day the guest will be asked to shoot at the target to familiarise himself with the rifle and ensure, to the stalker's satisfaction, that the guest is a competent shot. Safety while out stalking is paramount.

The stalker will accompany the guest throughout the day and is always in complete charge. A guest accompanied by the stalker and using 2 modern estate rifles, will not need a license but must provide evidence of insurance. The Estate has two modern sporting rifles with sound moderators and bipods.

A days stalking will begin with a journey up the hill road in an estate vehicle followed by a trip part way up the hill in an Argocat which will also be used to collect the beasts after a successful stalk.

Days stalking are available to let at £600 including VAT

RED DEER HINDS
The season for this is from October 21st to February 15th. This is available to let

The procedures would be the same as for stags.

FISHING

Fishing Scotland Loch Rannoch perthshireThe self catering cottage is situated by the Gaur and offers excellent angling opportunities on two rivers and several lochs. Bank and boat fishing are both available. Stocked brown and rainbow trout run three to eight pounds, the wild trout a little smaller. Large pike are also taken on the Gaur close to the Lodge. Anglers are advised to bring their own equipment tackle. Tackle can be provided.

The River Gaur leaves Laidon and heads east through Loch Eigheach to Loch Rannoch, and contains Brown Trout, Pike, Ferrox Char and the occasional salmon and sea trout

The River Tummel leaves Loch Rannoch at Kinloch Rannoch and continues its eastward journey through Dunalastair Reservoir. This shallow, fertile loch was created by a hydro dam and contains very large brown trout and some enormous pike. Trout and pike are taken on the Gaur on spinners or fly

Trout is stocked in one loch and is for fly fishing only. Two boats are available in the stocked loch.. There are no catch limits but only one fish per day may kept for consumption.
